The Story Behind SHEFA

SHEFA was born from a deep connection to Israel, the Jewish people, and a desire to serve communities facing hardship.
SHEFA's founder witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by people living in poverty and communities in need of consistent support. A particular focus emerged around the Beta Israel (Ethiopian Jewish) community in Israel, where many families struggle to afford basic necessities.
What began with providing grocery cards to families in need grew into something more focused and personal. SHEFA began providing essential ingredients—particularly Teff flour and oil used to prepare injera, a staple food deeply connected to Ethiopian Jewish culture and daily life.
The response was powerful, and the need continued to grow.
What started as an effort to help a small number of families became a growing mission to ensure that vulnerable members of the Beta Israel community could continue to put food on their tables with dignity.

The Mission

SHEFA's mission is to provide consistent, meaningful support to the Beta Israel community in Israel by supplying essential food staples—especially Teff flour and oil—so families facing poverty can nourish themselves and preserve an important part of their cultural heritage.
SHEFA believes that no family should have to wonder where their next meal will come from.
Rather than offering a one-time solution, SHEFA is committed to creating a continuous flow of support—bringing a sack of Teff flour and a jar of oil, and other essential resources to families who need them.

The Vision

The vision is simple:

To continuously provide a sack of Teff flour and a jar of oil to the Beta Israel community, helping ensure that vulnerable families have access to food.
SHEFA envisions a future where generosity becomes a steady stream of blessing—where supporters come together to create lasting impact, one family at a time.

Abundance That Flows

SHEFA is not simply about giving food.
It is about dignity, heritage, community, and blessing.
Every sack of Teff flour and every jar of oil represents a family being remembered, supported, and cared for. It represents the belief that abundance is not something to hold onto—it is something to share.
SHEFA invites individuals, families, organizations, and communities to become part of that flow.
When people give to SHEFA, they are helping turn abundance into action.
They are helping put food on tables.
They are helping preserve culture.
They are helping families in need.
And they are helping a blessing continue to flow.

Help turn abundance into action and keep the blessing flowing to families in need.
